Spring Fling in the City is all about love: love of vintage, love of handmade and love of local. It's an event inspired by times past, where old is new again and everything has potential. And what better place to showcase such a spirit than the beautifully restored Crown Square?

All the fun will happen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11 on North 14th Street between St. Louis Avenue and Montgomery Street and will feature 40-50 vendors selling vintage clothing, accessories and home decor, and/or vintage-inspired handmade items.

We'll also have some hands-on activities led by local crafty business owners; live music featuring local artists; and, for the children of the '80s, a video game lounge featuring those Mario Bros. we all know so well.

Food trucks will also be on hand to serve the masses with local fare, as well as local eateries Crown Candy and La Mancha Coffehouse. You'll also have the chance to shop local businesses while you're in the neighborhood, such as vintage/resale boutique Closet Repeats, Rambles Gift Gallery & Boutique and Therapy Boutique.

So come on out before the Cards game, find some unique treasures, eat some good food and celebrate the spirit of revitalization!

Austin, TX Renegade Handmade Premier (September 6th)

I am quoting from this fun blog HERE

Please visit Model Citizen Here. She will be there!!

"On Sunday, September 6th The Alamo Drafthouse is hosting the Austin premier of Handmade Nation! A documentary about the craft movement in America by Faythe Levine. If you read my blog I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you are crafty - or a crafty connoisseur - ergo you must go to the premier. It's mandatory.
Faythe has been traveling all over - premiering her documentary 1 city at a time & I've been eagerly awaiting it's arrival to the Lone Star State! So you can only imagine how thrilled I was to be asked to come and sell Model Citizen Clothing @ the premier! I've got some new stuff that isn't available in the shop yet! Ooh Aah! Other crafty Austinites will be there too - such as Sublime Stitching, Naughty Secretary Club, Made With Sweet Love, Ramonster, One Creative Girl, Pommes Frites & More! Come out, shop, see the film, check out some awesome demo's by Yudu, Wondercraft & Rachel Hobson! It's guaranteed to be an inspiring day! Tickets are still available through the Alamo Drafthouse!"

Join the fun under the red and white striped tent at Smith and Union Streets in Carroll Gardens, Saturday 11-7 and Sunday 11-6.

Participating indie designers will help celebrate three years of neighborhood support with a 10% off sale on select items. "Brooklyn Indie Market started at the same time I was getting my business off the ground," said MaryAnne LoVerme of Wabisabi Brooklyn. Strange Folk Festival 2008 Praise

Best Craft Festival
Strange Folk
Community Park
401 East Fifth Street
O'Fallon, Illinois 62269
618-409-5005
www.strangefolkfestival.com

There must be some serious local shoppers out there who've seen passing references to the Strange Folk Festival, imagined Joni Mitchell cover artists and said forget it. What a pity. Strange name, maybe, but as craft shows go, Strange Folk is folkin' awesome. Hundreds of indie artisans from throughout the Midwest set up shop for two whole days under and around the O'Fallon Community Park pavilion at the end of September. The mix of wares — unique stuff with which to deck out your baby, your dog, your best friend (heck, even your bathroom), but most of all, yourself — ranges from pretty to punk. The free entertainment, like alpaca-petting (OK, maybe that's strange), never fails to amuse the kids in tow; tell the man of the house to bring the laptop for the park's free wi-fi. Many of the crafties can point out how to find their goods after the show via an online indie bazaar, so the wait till next year doesn't seem so long. And no bizarro folk music. Promise!

Tips for Etsy Success from Timothy Adams Designs

I sometimes receive emails from Timothy Adams Designs. He makes jewelry and furniture and other goods from metal. He also does fun giveaways.
On his blog, he began doing tips for Etsy success, and he had a great point this time! He says, in your etsy shop, for your tag line under your shop name, fully describe the items you make, so they show up in GOOGLE searches. This makes total sense. so try it out! It only takes a second.

A New Selling Site called Folksy: Cast, solder, cut, knit, mould, sculpt, buy, sell, go!

I found this new shop for UK sellers on someone's blog. Folksy is set up very similarly to Etsy, and has a cool section on making, a place where sellers show instructions of the items they make. This feature and several others make Folksy seem more community oriented, rather than just a place to buy/sell items.

The Floksy BLOG is really great though. I recommend checking it out! They have lots of fun videos embedded in their site which I had some difficulty transferring for you all into this site.

I believe at this time, only UK sellers are allowed for soem reason, maybe currency issues??? But I hope in the near future they will be able to cater to US sellers. Maybe with the help and support of people like you and me, that will soon be possible!
