so I am terribly sorry about this awful quality image below...but I was at the mall yesterday and saw this sign for an art show.
The Sign Reads:

The Second Act Program is looking for artists age 50 and above who are interested in selling theis wors ar our first Creative Expressions Art Fair and Sale on July 25 (2009) at th eCarbondale Civic Center. To Learn more call 1877-480-4040. Put on in part by SIH (Southern Illinois Healthcare) and the Second Act"

I was happy to see this advertised in a nice place like this. I am not sure of they have a website or not, but I may call today to see. If any of you inquire, please let me know what they say...

KnoxFarmFiber is the producer of hand-spun yarn made from the fleece of animals who live at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora, New York. The yarn and other items, such as hats and scaves knitted from the yarn, plus Beginners Knitting Kits plus plain and dyed roving are for sale at the Gift Shop.
YOU CAN PURCHASE OUR YARN ONLINE AT www.knoxfarmfiber.etsy.com.
Sheep, llamas and goats are the fiber animals who live at Knox Farm State Park. Their fleece can be used to make a variety of yarns. The sheep are sheared once a year in the Spring. The llamas and goats are sheared more often. The fleece is washed, carded, handspun and then left its natural creamy color or dyed in an environmentaly sensitive process. All of the work is done by volunteers and by hand, much of it at the Park. Look for drying fleece set out in the sun on screens in the late Spring In the Fall you may find pots of dye-stuff simmering in a solar box.
We hope you like our yarn. If you have never worked with handspun before, you are in for a surprise. Handspun yarn differs from sheep-to-sheep and from spinner-to-spinner. Some of the fiber is left as its natural creamy color, and some is dyed. Some yarns are uneven. Some will be soft, others more coarse. You may even find bits of straw still in the yarn.
We wind our yarns into one or two ounce skeins or 28-30 yards per ounce. Most of the yarn is two-ply bulky weight and can be knit at a gauge of 3 stitches to 3.5 stitches to the inch.
You will find that no two skeins are the same
Please handwash our yarns gently in cool water. If you insist on soap, use a mild shampoo. Dry flat. Wind the skeins into loose balls before knitting and keep a large gauge so that the yarn will not be choked.
NOTE: Do not use our wool or yarn for felting projects. Our wool will not felt by hand, but SOME may felt with repeated agitation and hot water in a washing machine. Jill Sessa of Looped Back has great success with a front-loading machine.
We want you to be happy with our yarns! Please tell us what you think. E-mail Judith Bunn at jbunn_2000@yahoo.com or call me at 716 480 0086.

Inspiring Women Silent Auction

As the collective art students' and my advisor at Southern Illinois University I was wondering if you could e-mail any art students who would be interested in donating a piece of art to the Inspiring Women Silent Auction. Inspiring Women is a program that was est. in 2003 by SIUC division of Student Affairs created to honor women who have made significant contributions in their chosen fields, to their cities and towns, or to business, civic, governmental, service, or educational organizations and to honor entering freshman and transfer students admitted to SIUC for excellence in both curricular and extracurricular programs and activities. Thus, this program not only raises money for student scholarships but also honors local southern Illinois women. In order to raise money and honor these individuals, a silent auction is held in which the Inspiring Women program is seeking donations such as art pieces, etc. This is not only an opportunity to raise money but it is an opportunity for artists to get their name out there because almost six hundred people of the community and surrounding areas attend the gala- when the silent auction is held. If interested, artists could place a business card or something next to the art. However, if interested the items are need by September 1st or preferably sooner. The artists can contact me at rmcindoo@siu.edu to let me know of the donations and then drop off the item as Dr. Paratore's office on campus- her e-mail is paratore@siu.edu -she is the coordinator. Let me know what you think or if that is ok! Thanks!!

Sincerely,

Rachael McIndoo

2nd Annual Etsy YART Sale!!!

Sellers, it has been almost a year since the first unofficial “Yart Sale” on Etsy. Yart sale? What exactly is a “Yart Sale,” you may ask? The term Yart is an artistic spin on the traditional yard sale:

Art + Yard Sale = Yart!

There are many art museums, artists, and groups that have yart sales annually to raise cash. Although not an official Etsy event, the Etsy Yart sale is a great way to bond with your fellow Etsy sellers. What began last year as a casual conversation on the Etsy Supply Street Team (ESST) thread about destashing and raising funds, blossomed into a discussion on our private boards about creating an Etsy-wide yart sale. This year's sale will be the “2nd Annual Yart Sale on Etsy sponsored by Team ESST.” It will take place June 10 through June 14, 2009. Everyone with a shop on Etsy is invited to participate!

This article will address frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the Yart Sale. During the Yart Sale, feel free to refer people to this Storque article, link it on your blog, or tweet it on Twitter. As the date draws near, please refer to the Team ESST blog for updates, and as well as the Promotional section of the Etsy Forums for the Official Yart Sale sponsored by Team ESST thread that will be posted with the Team ESST Avatar. If you have further questions, please convo EtsySupplyStreetTeam.etsy.com.

FAQs
When will the Yart Sale be?
Our Second Annual Yart Sale will be from Wednesday, June 10 through Sunday, June 14, 2009. Participate in one, two, or all five days of the sale.

Which shops on Etsy can participate?
All shops on Etsy are invited to participate. Choose to participate with your handmade, supply or vintage shop. If you have more than one shop, you can participate with each.

How does a seller participate in the Yart Sale?
To join the sale, simply post the following Yart Sale announcement in the Shop Announcement section of your Etsy shop:

“I am participating in the Yart Sale on Etsy sponsored by Team ESST."

You should also include a short description of how you will be participating in the sale.

Here are a few extra suggestions for how to effectively utilize the Yart Sale as a promotional tool:

•Maintain a Yart Sale Section where merchandise is already marked down.
•Tag and/or title items in your shop “Yart,” so customers can search your Etsy and your shop to find your “Yart” items.
•Special discount pricing for length of the sale. (You would need to credit back their account for the set amount on PayPal. Example: 10% off.)
•Free shipping. Remember to clarify terms. Example: Only on orders over $25.00, etc. State your terms clearly. (If you offer free shipping, you would need to again credit back their account for the shipping on PayPal.)
•If you feel the price points in your shop do not allow you to have a sale, perhaps you can offer a free promotional gift or a slight discount toward future orders.
These are merely suggestions, and I am sure you can come up with many others. Remember, your Shop Announcement is an important piece in being involved in this sale, as it is where you describe the terms of your Yart sale and the dates that your shop will participate.

Fancy Schmancy Flea Market

I wish I could have attended this event. It was held in Peoria, IL, and looked like they had wonderful weather!! Thanks to Anodyne* for these lovely images.

READ MORE FROM HER HERE...

This is a bit delayed, but I wanted to share with you the comments she had about the show. Better late than never...
"I just re-read my own blog post and realized I didn't actually talk a whole lot about the Fancy Schmancy Flea Market itself. Oops. Let me give you a little more of a description of the event that might actually be helpful:

It was a perfect day for a craft fair, and there were quite a few vendors there. There was lots of jewelry, a few booths focused on baby items, some candles, and a few booths (including mine) with handmade bags. There were also some at-home business vendors (ie, Scentsy) indoors. Most of the people who came through came in the morning and things slowed down during the afternoon. There were local musicians performing throughout the day and a food vendor. All in all, it was a great crafty/festival atmosphere. I think the event might start to draw more visitors and generate more sales for vendors once it becomes established as a regular event. Once of the nice things about this event is that it was focused on benefitting the Center for the Prevention of Abuse, which does important work here in Peoria. I believe that the event will benefit a different charitable organization each time, and I think I overheard that it will be supporting a local food pantry at the next one, which will be August 2nd.

Hope that was a little more helpful! :)"
