Mahar Dry Goods at Unique Los Angeles, 2008

Through this amazing set of images on Flickr by Mahar Dry Goods, I was truly inspired. Both by craft fair setup and merchandise type items. They have such a cool feel to their booth, I really wish I could visit them some day soon. Their clothing rack is killer, ,and i also love their fabric sign that is led by a giant paper airplane. how creative.
Mahar Dry Goods sells clothing, furniture, stockings, pillow and other stuffed goodies, ceramics, luggage, and probably a lot more. See their website HERE.

Create a New Free Website HERE on Weebly

As I was browsing etsy, I found this lady's shop (Jstephens13). Very cool items, she also has 601 sales!!
Anyhoo, She linked to her website, and after further investigation, I found out that it was made possible by Weebly. They have a ton of templates for you to use and make it very easy to manage and is even more unique than a blog. I may just try this out myself :)
This is a very cool option for someone who is not familiar with web design coding in html or css.

Strange Folk Festival 2008 Praise

Best Craft Festival
Strange Folk
Community Park
401 East Fifth Street
O'Fallon, Illinois 62269
618-409-5005
www.strangefolkfestival.com

There must be some serious local shoppers out there who've seen passing references to the Strange Folk Festival, imagined Joni Mitchell cover artists and said forget it. What a pity. Strange name, maybe, but as craft shows go, Strange Folk is folkin' awesome. Hundreds of indie artisans from throughout the Midwest set up shop for two whole days under and around the O'Fallon Community Park pavilion at the end of September. The mix of wares — unique stuff with which to deck out your baby, your dog, your best friend (heck, even your bathroom), but most of all, yourself — ranges from pretty to punk. The free entertainment, like alpaca-petting (OK, maybe that's strange), never fails to amuse the kids in tow; tell the man of the house to bring the laptop for the park's free wi-fi. Many of the crafties can point out how to find their goods after the show via an online indie bazaar, so the wait till next year doesn't seem so long. And no bizarro folk music. Promise!
Found HERE on River Front Times.

2 St. Louis Art Shows

An article on this site had a blurb about the top 3 St. Louis MEtro Area art shows, although one is Cedarhurst, which is about an hour away from St. Louis.
The other two include:
*"The St. Louis Art Fair, formerly known as the Clayton Art Fair, transforms the downtown area of this mini-St. Louis suburb into a colorful collage of upscale art. In all, about 160 artists from around the world display their wares. The fair is consistently ranked as one of the nation's top five outdoor festivals. The event takes place every year in the middle of September, after the Labor Day weekend, and the admission is free, even though the art for sale is anything but."

*"The Third best art fair in the St, Louis area: The Schlafly Bottleworks Alternative Art Fair in Maplewood. This fair features, well, alternative art. The kind of stuff that you might find in the small coffee shop where the guy with the goatee keeps the beat with the bongos. Maplewood, right on the western outskirts of the city, has had a recent revival of sorts. A number of small art shops and small, trendy restaurants have popped up along the main drag in recent years. This festival definitely feels more like a street party, with rock and roll music and a younger crowd. The owner of the Schlafly Bottleworks decided to stage his own art fair a couple of years ago when he was snubbed out of the beer tent that he used to have at the St, Louis Art Fair in Clayton."

These shows may be well worth checking into...

Product Packaging

Since the creation of my final project in Photoshop class (the perfect bootie box), I have been searching for display boxes in which I can house my baby boots and booties. I believe that items that come in a complete package are more approachable in a retail situation.
For my eco-friendly goods, I need to remain conscious that the packaging needs to be reusable and not contain unnecessary dyes or plastics.
I found a couple of interesting ideas here...

Another Etsy "Quit Your Day Job" Interview...

So, today I am inspired by an etsy Storque article from a series entitled "Quit Your Day Job". The interview is with HoboCampCraft, who has about 336 sales!! Good for her :)

"If I’m ever at a creative wall, I look through Flickr, read my blogs or grab a good art book for stimulation.
If you could go back in time before you took the plunge, what advice would you give yourself knowing what you know now? What would you tell someone else?
I would offer the idea of a realistic business plan and an open mind. Some of the designs and ideas that we started Hobocamp on have changed and morphed over the years. Stay true to yourself, but know that change is good and can bring about many new opportunities. You may want to just make stationery, but if given the opportunity to learn metalsmithing, take it! You never know where it will lead you."

These were the most inspiring quotes from the interview!!!
